Earlier this month, federal authorities confirmed that at least 30 water systems in Minnesota alone had been hit by cyberattacks, causing disruptions such as low pressure water flow.
The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency issued an urgent warning, noting that threat actors are targeting water entities of all sizes by exploiting internet connected operational technology.
This campaign aligns with broader geopolitical tensions. Government officials have anonymously attributed the attacks to Iranian affiliated actors, who have reportedly escalated cyber operations against US infrastructure over the past six months.
