In the space of a single month, Anthropic has shifted from model provider to system orchestrator. The expansion of Claude’s “computer use” capability into Windows environments places autonomous AI directly onto enterprise desktops, allowing systems to navigate applications, execute workflows and debug code with minimal human input .

At the same time, the launch of Claude Managed Agents signals a deeper push into enterprise software, enabling organisations to deploy autonomous agents across functions from development to operations in days rather than months. Alongside this, disclosures around misuse and the emerging Mythos system confirm that these same capabilities can be directed toward reconnaissance, intrusion and exploitation.

What is making headlines is not any single release, but the convergence of them. Enterprise software, offensive cyber capability and agentic AI are collapsing into one operational layer. At the centre of this acceleration is Dario Amodei, whose strategy is increasingly moving beyond model development into real world deployment at scale.

That shift is now intersecting with policy. Reports in Australian media last week pointed to confidential discussions between Anthropic and government stakeholders, including early stage agreements around AI deployment, safeguards and sovereign capability alignment. While details remain limited, the direction is clear. Frontier AI firms are no longer operating at arm’s length from government. They are becoming embedded in national capability frameworks.

Why it matters, why now

The Australian dimension sharpens the urgency. If frontier AI firms are now engaging directly with government on deployment and security frameworks, the implication is that AI capability is being treated as critical infrastructure. That elevates both the opportunity and the risk, particularly as deployment is occurring in parallel with capability expansion rather than after it.

This matters because the boundary between enterprise productivity and cyber risk is dissolving. The same systems that can build applications, manage workflows and integrate across platforms can also identify vulnerabilities and act on them at machine speed. AI is no longer augmenting cyber operations. It is executing them.

Industry data reflects the scale of this shift. Ninety four per cent of cybersecurity leaders now identify AI as the primary driver of change in the threat landscape. The transformation is not only in sophistication, but in tempo. Vulnerabilities can be discovered and exploited in near real time, compressing attack cycles beyond human response capacity.

The market is already responding. Cybersecurity leaders such as CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks are attracting capital, while parts of the sector are being repriced as investors question whether existing defences can operate at machine speed. Infrastructure providers including Nvidia and Broadcom remain central as the compute backbone of this transition.

Overlaying this is scale. Anthropic’s February Series G raise of $30 billion, valuing the company at $380 billion, signals more than investor confidence. It reflects the emergence of a new class of enterprise platform, one that is expanding monthly into deeper operational layers of business. From coding to workflow orchestration to autonomous execution, Anthropic is positioning itself not as a tool, but as infrastructure.

That is where the tension now sits. For enterprises, this represents a step change in productivity and automation. Tasks that once required teams can now be executed by systems operating continuously. For workers, it raises a more immediate question around displacement, augmentation and control. Where does human oversight sit when execution is delegated to machines.

The urgency lies in timing. AI capability is advancing faster than institutional adaptation. Autonomous agents introduce a new operational dynamic where a single system can scan, test and exploit continuously.

“AI is making it possible to exploit vulnerabilities almost immediately after discovering them,” said Evan Peña. That compression leaves little margin for delay.

There are still constraints. Human oversight remains critical in defining intent and accountability. But the balance is shifting. Execution is becoming automated, persistent and scalable.

What to watch next is not a single model release, but direction. How far and how fast Anthropic continues to push into enterprise systems, how governments respond to that integration, and whether defensive capability can keep pace with deployment. The companies that align these elements will define the next phase of the AI economy. Those that do not will operate inside it, rather than shape it.
